Beginner -

Hello, I'm trying to type up a sheet of music for my daughter, but I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I'm already struggling with the first measure. Every time I try to connect the two quarter notes with a duet, it turns them into eighth notes with a small 2 below, and it adds rests for voices 1 and 2. How should I input the first measure so that it looks and plays the way I want it to? Picture 1... is how it's supposed to be, and 2 is what MuseScore is doing. Or am I misunderstanding something?
