Dots collide with ledger line above or below the staff

When I place a dotted note on a line inside the staff, the dot correctly is correctly placed either above or below it in order to avoid a collision.

However, if I place a dotted note on a ledger line above or below the staff, the dot is placed on the line, causing a collision and is difficult to see on the printed score.
