1. Open attached score (produced in 1.3).
2. 'Style'>'General…'.
3. Tick 'Hide empty staves'.
4. 'OK'.

Result: The short instrument name doesn't appear for Piano 1.

Note: It seems only reproducible if it's a multi-stave instrument and the visible staves only have bass clefs.

Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (b6480b7) - Mac 10.7.5.

This is also true for the long name, assuming you allow hiding of staves in the first system,

Cause is simple - the name is only attached to the top staff, so it goes away when the top staff does. There should probably be special code to "borrow" the top staff and display it on the bottom staff if the top is hidden but the bottom is not.
