I found that when importing a score from 1.3 the manual adjustments made to repeats ("repeat" and repeat right" are resulting in bad positions in 2.0, reseting to the default x-offsets worked and looked just fine, y-offset looks to high to me for "repeat" and "repeat right" and to low for "repeat left" (collision with measure numbers).

So I'd propose to

  1. change y-offset for "repeat" and "repeat left" from -2 to -1, -1.5 would probably be OK too
  2. Change y-offset for "repeat right" from -2 to -3, -2.5 might be enough
  3. ignore manual offsets to these elements on import from 1.3

The trick will remain finding settings that work well for the majority of situations. I agree that raising "repeat text left" will avoid collisions with the default measure number positions, but the result will be too high for situations where the segno ro coda is *not* at the beginning of a system. That's assuming you have measure numbers at start of system only. If you have measure numbers everywhere, then the symbols collide everywhere; if you you omit measure numbers, then the segno and coda are too high everywhere.

Anyhow, could you post some specific scores where you feel these changes will help? Both regarding 1.3 import but also regarding the defaults for 2.0.

FWIW, Elaine Gould's "Behind Bars" discusses positioning of these elements on pages 238-240. Unfortunately, her recommendations are situation specific - different positions for symbols depending on whether they are at start of system or not, whether the staff contains lyrics or not, etc.

Would be great if we had a test file made with 1.3 to play with. Can anyone do one?
The current PR is changing the default settings for ALL scores 1.3, and 2.0... Changing the style for 1.3 scores would be enough?

I'd still like to see someone post score or an image showing the proposed new default positions for these elements in a variety of settings, including with or without measure numbers, with or without voltas, with or without chords symbols, at beginning of system versus not, etc. As I have said before, I'm not convinced we're going to find one group of settings that is an improvement overall in all cases. I'm not saying it's impossible, but so far, I haven't seen any posted evidence.

1.X files import issues don't seem to be considered of a priority, especially that this issue is only about a visual appearance of the imported score.
