Completing Script

Delighted to have found this program, I am completly new to writing music how do I get more than one line on a page.

It should be giving you as many lines as will fit on a page.

What kind of staff are you selecting when you create the score?
Exactly what steps did you take to get to this point?

I selected create new score from template, a4piano.msc,32 measures and it all ends up on one line.

Ah, right. By default, it will squeeze as much as it can on one line and only make a new line if it doesn't have enough room.

So at first, you have a bunch of blank measures, so of course they fit on one line.

Start adding notes, and it will start to spread out.

After adding notes, you might still find that it's crowded. One thing you can do is add a measure break (under Layout > Breaks... pick the one with the arrow). With that you can force a new line. You can do that immediately if you like.

There are more complex ways of spreading out the notes, but I recommend starting with that. It works for me most of the time. :)

Is it not possible to reduce the number of Bars or Measures per line to 3 or4 before starting to write notes.

Did you try this?

  1. Create your blank score (32 measures)
  2. Click on Layout > Breaks...
  3. Click/drag the break with the 'bent arrow' to the 3rd measure (only let go of the button when you see the measure "light up").

At this point, the first line should have 3 measures on the first line, and the remaining 29 measures on the second line. I just tried this and it works.

I found a way to regulate the Bars per Line, go to Style/Edit Style/Measure and change spacing from1 to 2.30. It gives me a full page of lines except the first two lines have 4 Bars and rest have 5 Bars at least I am getting somewhere now.
Thanks for all your help.

Yes, that's another way to do it. But the way I described should also have worked. And it gives you exact control over how many measure per line.

The handbook might help you to get started and learn about MuseScore: http://musescore.org/en/handbook
