Description
It seems the internal synthesiser (Edit->Preferences->I/O) is way too reverbed (at least on Windows) so that everything sounds a bit 'muddy'. Turns out that by default chorus and reverb are on for any new instrument, although turning them down only improves (IMHO) a little.
I would suggest at least setting reverb and chorus to 0 by default, as I think for score editing the clearer the sound the better (if one wants to do a 'realistic' midi rendering with cool synth they usually use a sequencer anyway...)
Even better would be to use a default synth (soundfont?) with no 'hardcoded' reverb.
Al the best
Lorenzo
What version of Musescore are you using? What operating system? What SoundFont?
I would support this comment. I am using 0.9.5 on OS X 10.6.2. Each new score has to be started by turning reverb and chorus off. (Well, I leave a small reverb).
Hi sorry for the late answer.
I'm using 0.9.6 on both windows XP and Ubuntu 9.10. The soundfont is the one with "default synth" in the settings.
In Ubuntu thing seem a little better by turning the reverb down.
Bests,
Lorenzo
The new default SoundFont in the upcoming 0.9.6 indeed has a lot less 'hardcoded' reverb.
In the 0.9.6 beta the reverb settings are in two places: Display > Mixer, and Display > Synthesizer. I suppose it would be useful if there was an easy preset that turned them all down.
Nice to hear that about hard-coded reverb (never a nice thing, apart from very special cases IMHO).
As I said I'd personally have reverb to 0 as default for a score editor, but that's a personal tast I guess.
Thanks,
Lorenzo.
