What do you want to know about it?
"Is it true?" - Yes
"Does it affect MuseScore development?" - Not directly no

In reply to by Papibois

From a business perspective; yes, the programs are quite complementary
From a development perspective: no (not yet).

Although I believe the intention is to bring the VST improvements being made to MuseScore currently somewhat across to Audacity as well. The development teams stay largely separate, with only some people working on both projects.

Audacity & MuseScore Announcement!
Posted on May 3, 2021 by James Crook

Martin Keary (aka Tantacrul) recently posted a super YouTube video about Audacity containing the following announcement:

Audacity has just joined Muse Group, a collection of brands that includes another popular open source music app called MuseScore, which I’m currently in charge of. And since things are going rather well at MuseScore, I was asked to step up and also manage Audacity in partnership with its open source community. And just like we’re doing at MuseScore, we’re now planning on significantly improving the feature set and ease of use of Audacity – providing dedicated designers and developers to give it the attention it deserves – while keeping it free and open source.

We’re scared and excited.

We hope you are too.

The article is true. Audacity has joined MuseScore and Ultimate Guitar, and the parent company is now called Muse Group.

This will not have any impact on MuseScore's development in the short term, but it opens up some interesting possibilities for the future. Audacity and MuseScore will remain separate applications, though they may eventually "talk to each other" and share data in some form. Audacity is of course already able to import WAV and MIDI files created in MuseScore.

The Audacity announcement has nothing to do with the new playback system that is under development for MuseScore 4.
