changing clefs assignments

• Apr 14, 2019 - 21:04

I have opened an mxl file in musecore that has a single piano part, 2 staves, treble and base clef. It looks correct in musecore, but actually both staves are treble clef---when I right click on either staff to set properties, the same properties come up, and in the instrument panel I can see the 2 staves are designated as being treble clef (see attached screeenshot). Is there a way I can designate the base clef staff as being base clef? I can't seem to change that in the instrument panel view or by right clicking on the staff and looking at its properties.

This is probably because of how the mxl file defined the staves. It shouldn't affect anything once the proper clefs are inserted. If it really bothers you, you can select one of the staves on the piano and click "Add staff" and it will add a bass clef staff (at least to the second and probably the first). You can then copy everything from the second treble staff to the one you added, then go back and delete the unneeded treble staff, click it and then click the remove button.

I don't think this is supposed to work like this.

For someone familiar with xml, here's what I found:
I imported the score into version 3.1-beta and there are only two instruments with one staff each with no instrument assigned to them. When I right click the staff and choose staff/part properties, there is not instrument in any of the normal places in the properties window. The instrument name is also blank in the inspector.

dlrubin, Now that I see what you get when you import the score, I would right click each staff, choose staff/part properties and change the instruments to piano. You can then add a staff to the first piano and it will default to bass clef. You can then copy the notes from the second instrument to the first then remove the second piano.

I have done this in the score then exported it to midi. I don't use midi, so I don't know if this is the final form you were looking for.

FYI, I think all of the problems are due to how the xml was exported.
