[MS3] Creating a separate score for just the instrument - score shows different transposition, but playback does not play different notes?

• Feb 7, 2025 - 01:25

So i'm doing an arrangement of a song from Link's Awakening for piano and alto sax. I've made one set of sheet music with both parts on it, and one set with just the sax for my sax player friend to read from. In both I have the instruments set as alto sax.

However, in one score it shows the alto sax starting on a C, and in the other it shows it starting on an E. I know that many instruments have their sheet music transposed, but I'm not sure why it's being transposed two different ways. For reference, the actual starting note is G. The playback on both sounds identical as well.

I've included both .mscz files, feel free to poke around.

Comments

  • Scores stem from MuseScore 3.5.2, I see no reason not to update to 3.6.2
  • Why is the Alto Sax in Mr._Write_and_Christine_sax.mscz called "Instrument" but "Alto Saxophone" in Mr._Write_and_Christine_sax_only.mscz?
  • Why don't you just use parts? They would automagically have identical notes in main score and part?

  • They do transpose differently, clef-wise, no idea why, but one shows a bass clef in Concert Pitch (correct), the other a treble clef (wrong)
