Easy and obvious changes to font characteristics from ver. 3

• Mar 28, 2025 - 03:49

What I used often in 3 that I can't find in 4 is a small window in the lower, left corner providing direct access to font styles and size.

¿Is this available in 4?

Thanks, Marc,

I'm a very lightweight user. Forgive me for not understanding the benefit of no longer being forced to do something that was direct and easy.

In v3 I could highlight any text in my score and then directly change size (or font) from the small box that was living on my editing window.

¿So now, do I have to ►
Properties ►
Style ►
Text Style ►
select my target from the long list of Title/Subtitle/Composer/Lyricist/...
and then go to "Edit text style" ...
... to change the size of the font?

I an not being snarky and I must be missing something

Thanks, TheHutch and Marc. I see now that if I highlight any text it will stay hot when I switch to the Properties panel. I must have been doing something that de-selected the chosen text so that when I opened Properties I had to go thru a few steps and menus to get there.

No trouble, really, to have to open Properties, I had just gotten used to not having to take that extra step.

Now, just change the value the Properties panel in the left sidebar that is always open.

To be clear, 3.6.2 had two separate places to make font changes. If you wanted to change the whole piece of text, you use the Inspector. If you only want to change some of the characters within the text - like to write "only one word is bold" and have only one of those words be bold - that is what the box you were showing in the status bar is for. Sounds like you were working around the inconvenience of there being two different places to edit font settings by always making your changes in the status bar? That was never correct except for the case of making only one word within a text b old and in fact leads to problem when you go to change style later etc.

So, as I explained, it's much simpler now.; Minstead of making some changes in one place, other changes in another and paying a penalty in wrong behavior if you try to use the wrong place to make a change - now all the changes are made in one very simple place; the Properties panel, which is always available right there in the sidebar. You can change one word, or the whole text, or even change the style for the score, all in that one place, and MuseScore correctly tracks which you are doing and does the right thing.
