Help formatting multiple lyric timings in one voice part?

• Apr 23, 2025 - 17:20

Hi all!

Looking for some guidance on how to clean up lyric engraving, in instances when a voice part splits and has syllables occurring at different times on the same staff (m. 2 of this example, in the soprano and bass voices). Screenshot 2025-04-23 at 12.19.44 PM.png

I'm not sure whether it's cleaner to put lyrics above or below dynamic markings, and generally the text looks warped and "off center" compared to the lower voice(s) on the same line.

Advice on best practice and on any musescore functionalities I may have overlooked appreciated! Picture and file attached (I use a bunch of nonnative fonts, so opening it yourself might look a little different haha).

Personally, I think I would hide the dynamics (hairpins and levels) above the Soprano line. They have to be present (to make the Soprano line playback properly), but it should be obvious to singers that they apply to the Soprano line as well as the others from context. I believe that hiding them will allow the above-Soprano lyrics to move into their position. (Test and see!)
