Lyric Placement - Barbershop and Choral Music
In choral and barbershop music, lyrics are often put in the middle of the grand staff and split by part (tenor above the top staff, lead below the top staff, baritone above the bottom staff, bass below the bottom staff). Musescore does not seem to have this capability, limiting my ability to arrange barbershop music cleanly.
Please include a feature where you can add lyrics based on stem direction for each voice part.

Sweet, how do I do it? For the life of me, I can’t figure it out.
Each part has different things/lyrics going on and I can’t figure out how to assign lyrics to individual parts in the same staff.

Easiest way is to add the Tenor lyric to the Tenor voice first. As soon as you have one word entered, press X. This toggles the lyric between Below and Above, so it moves it up. Now continue with the Tenor lyrics.
Then select a note in the Lead voice and add lyrics to it normally.
Same idea with the Baritone and Bass lines.
On reading your post again, I wonder: do you have the two voices (singing) in two separate Voices (musical notation)? If not, read https://handbook.musescore.org/basics/working-with-multiple-voices

Select note of voice 1 (Tenor), add one lyrics syllable, X to to move it above staff, continue adding the remaining lyrics.
Select note of voice 2 (Lead), add lyrics

Right. As The Hutch says, entering the tenor and bari lyrics first helps. Then they don't overlap the lead and bass.
