Image Capture Tool

• May 3, 2025 - 21:06

I just started using Musescore 4 on my new Mac mini. I found this tool extremely useful but from what I am reading on the forum it appears that it is not available on Version 4. The posts I'm reading are at least 6 months old - I am wondering if there is an update and perhaps it has been added back. Anyone know?

There are several long and sometimes acrimonious discussions of this elsewhere. Suffice it to say that no, it has not been added back. Personally, I do not expect it to be added back in. For screenshots, use your operating system's built-in screenshot tool. Windows is Snipping Tool. I know that Mac has one; I just don't know what its name is. I believe that the various Linux flavors (or most of them?) have one but I don't know for sure. Additionally, there are many screenshot utilities available. Any of them should do the job for you in most situations. If you have special requirements, you may have to find something that meets your specific needs. (Yes, Jojo, that's how I address the issues of transparency and SVG output.)

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I had been using the image capture tool in Musescore 3 to insert music into documents I have been making in Pages. In Musescore 4 when I take a screenshot and insert it the result is not good. I see the edges of the image and the background is not pure white. I tried exporting it as a PNG but the margins are suddenly larger and I can't stretch the image any further to fill the whole page. I guess I will have to look for other screenshot utilities on the App Store? I was hoping they made a plugin to be able to keep using this feature in Version 4. Frustrating. Thanks again

I've had pretty good luck with the Mac's clipping tool (CMD-Shift-4). Open the screenshot in Preview, and export it as a PDF. Paste it into Pages, and you can resize it as needed.

See if that hides the edges. I always use a tan background, so I won't swear that the edges will or won't show in white.
