The left side of the system goes off the page/weirdness

• May 5, 2025 - 20:32

Hello,

I am making special kid-friendly music, and have made some modifications so the music is extra large (using staff size in page settings) however, it pushes the begin repeat sign off of the page on system one, as well as the letters for the string names I added as text (they are off the page and I can't grab them.)

  1. How do I make the begin repeat move to the correct place?

  2. How do I move those letters on left side of the first system back onto the page?

I've added the file - TIA!

You can select anything by clicking on an element and moving back and forth with Alt+Left or Alt+Right to the specific element of your choice. It literally moves through the items in the order they exist in the .XML file. However, in your case, it's difficult to identify what is being selected because of your color choices, so look at the bottom left corner to see exactly what is being selected with each Alt+Left or Alt+Right movement through the score.

I found that you have a non-zero Leading Space applied to that Start Repeat barline (Properties panel / Appearance button). Resetting that to zero fixes your item 1 and half of your item 2.

Finally, a comment on your pedagogy. I would be hesitant to use the terms "quarter note" and "eighth note" until I was ready to also introduce the standard symbols for quarter note and eighth note. While using tab, I would refer to them as (something like) "one-beat note" vs. "half-beat note". Then later, when the time came to introduce the standard symbols, I would describe them as (for example) "this symbol is called a 'quarter note' and it means what we have been calling the 'one-beat note'." Obviously, YMMV!
