Musescore on Macbook (Air)

I have always worked with Musescore on a Windows laptop for music notation.
In all documentation it says that it should also be possible on Mac / IOS.
I have installed Musescore on my new Macbook Air now.
It looks as if it's only possible to open and read files now. I can't see how to make a new file or adjust files.
