how to write music with no time signature
The AI directions for creating a score with no time signature (and not bar lines) is not working. How does one write a score of chant or a score for indicating all the notes in a handbell piece? Even cheap music software of the 90's allowed for creating a score with no time signature. Why doesn't MuseScore allow this option?

Musescore is even cheaper than the cheap software of the 90s
It does allow the option as barlines and time signatures can be hidden and measure lengths csn be as large as you like. See https://handbook.musescore.org/alternative-notation/mensural-notation-a… and also https://musescore.org/en/node/378326
The Musescore handbook is written using Human Intelligence and is more likely to give you a sensible answer than the artificial variety. I recommend you get to know it. https://handbook.musescore.org/

Steve, thanks for all your links and info. I think I am almost there. I do have another question, When creating a new score and using the option "create from template", there is an option "Liturgical Unmetrical" which looks as if there is no time signature, etc in the sample shown, but when "Done" is clicked, or if you go to the options page, there is the standard 4/4 meter. This is a disappointment that the blank score doesn't show up meter-free, but in 4/4. Any chance of it actually looking like and working like the "sample" page.
For your purposes, read https://handbook.musescore.org/alternative-notation/mensural-notation-a…, https://handbook.musescore.org/basics/alternative-note-input-methods (especially section https://handbook.musescore.org/basics/alternative-note-input-methods#in…) and https://handbook.musescore.org/notation/rhythm-meter-and-measures/measu… (especially section https://handbook.musescore.org/notation/rhythm-meter-and-measures/measu…). Don't know where you got "AI directions" but you should know that "AI directions"--for anything--are totally useless, except by chance.

Thanks. Actually AI helped me find where in the Handbook I might find info, but yours was better! Yes, I am not really a fan of AI!
How do I get the alt. brevis to insert. All the other possible Noteheads immediately insert except the alt. brevis.

Longer (and shorter) note values are available in the toolbar if you enable them from the settings cog. See https://handbook.musescore.org/basics/entering-notes-and-rests#selectin… which links to https://handbook.musescore.org/customization/toolbars-and-windows#custo…

What a very complicated way to get an alt brevit when every other type of note is so easy. But at least it works. Thanks
