How do you give Musescore a tempo direction in terms of the right note length?

I notated a project "Larghetto" and in cut time, but it assumed larghetto in terms of the quarter note. Of course it should have seen the time signature automatically, but in any case, what do I do?

You really need to give examples of what you want, what you did, what the result was and what was different to that which you expected.

Use the metronome markings and select the note you want there. You can also edit the metronome markings by adding words (for example, the traditional Italian tempo words). Just click into the text field the same way that you modify the metronome number, move the cursor to the beginning or end (wherever you want the Italian, German, French, or whatever word to go) and type it.

The bpm in Properties / Tempo / Override written tempo for the Italian tempo words are always in quarter notes per minute, no matter what the time signature is.
