Cross staff lines
In barbershop, it's customary to use a dashed line to indicate a change in who has the melody. To change within a staff (lead to tenor, f.e.) it's no problem. However, when trying to move cross-staff (lead to bass) I can't make the line anchor to both notes. I can attach it to one end, but dragging the handle to the other staff just move the staves further apart. I didn't see anything in the manual or in properties that might allow it.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Don't use the line symbol in the eponymous palette, use the ‘Add note-anchored line’ symbol - image below.
Select the two notes concerned, and simply click on this symbol. No need to turn off Autoplace. Moving this line (although you don't actually need to) has no effect whatsoever on staves space.
You already know how to style (dotted on my image) the line.

It is new in the palette (and its behavoir got improved too, before it was notedhaed center to center, not nice with half and whole notes), it was available in the menus only before (since Mu2 already) and was one of MuseScore's best kept secrets for a long time ;-)

To quote mikey, "Wowwy zowwy!" I could have used that once or twice in the past. Good to know of it now.
