Have keyboard option that does not show bass clef

• May 23, 2025 - 06:07

I would like a piano score with just the treble clef. I'll add chords above the notes. I can't find out how to do that. Please help.
In other words, when adding piano as an instrument it automatically adds both the treble and bass clef. I can see how to hide barlines etc (not sure why anyone would want to do that!), but not the whole bass clef.
I only want a treble clef - like what I get with adding 'Flute'. Just for piano or any keyboard.
Like on the attached image.
Thanks
David

Method 1: Create a new Score. Click on Choose Instruments / Keyboard and select a Piano to add to the score. Go to the Layout panel (Instruments panel before v.4.5; yellow highlight). Click the arrow to the left of the instrument name (green highlight). This now displays the two staves--the treble and bass clef. Click on the bass clef (blue highlight) to select it and, near the upper right of the Layout panel, click the 'trash can' button (orange highlight) to delete it.

Method 2: Create a new Score, Select any single staff instrument (i.e. none of the keyboard instruments and neither harp nor marimba ... are there any other two-stave instruments I've left out?). Right-click on the stave and, from the context menu that appears, click on Staff/Part properties... (first screenshot below). On the Staff/Part properties dialog, under Part properties, click the Replace Instrument button (yellow highlight in second screenshot below) change the Instrument from whatever you selected to "Piano".

Method 3: Create a new Score. Click on Create from Template (yellow highlight) / General (green highlight) and select the "Treble Clef" (blue highlight)

I recommend that every new (or "new-ish" :-) user take an hour or two and simply read the entire Handbook (https://handbook.musescore.org/). Don't try to memorize it! Just skim through it and familiarize yourself with the contents! But read it all!!! Then you'll have an idea where to find things when issues come up in the future. "Didn't I see something about that in the Handbook?"

Welcome aboard and best of luck!!!
