Entering pitch of more than a 4th interval

I know that in Duration before Pitch, the next entered note will go to the closest octave of that pitch. If it's the wrong one, CMD-arrow jumps it up or down. In Finale, we could move (call it) the start point up or down a note or two before we entered the pitch. Much faster, because it only took a single-hand keystroke. In addition, that "starting pitch" was visible as a ghost note, so it was easy to get it to where you wanted it.

Is there a similar feature in MSS, that I've missed?
