DockArticulate for MS4

• Jun 1, 2025 - 05:54

Someone's already made a thread about this previously but the qml that was provided in the comments doesn't seem to work on the latest MS4. I'd just updated from MS3 and I really want to use Bernard Greenberg's DockArticulate plugin, but according to his GitHub he isn't going to update the plugin and I haven't seen any similar articulation plugins for MS4 either. Is there a way I can update the plugin myself, or has anyone made a similar plugin that works for MS4?

This is the plugin I'm talking about:

It's not possible yet in MS4 because the plugin API has no access to the length and ontime properties of notes, both of which are used in DockArticulate. Also, I'm not sure that MS4 even uses these values in its playback.

Perhaps MS4 already has some built-in functionality for the articulations that you need.

Might be personal preference, but only the built-in legato and staccato are audible to me. There isn't a "non-legato" articulation for unmarked notes and a portato articulation for notes with slurs and dots, which is what I use the articulation plugin for. Maybe editing length and ontime properties should be added to MS4 soon.

The sooner the better! There has been much discussion about this but no progress.

I have had to move from MS3.7 to MS4 and the lack of these values in MS4 completely trashes my scores as they depend on the TAB Ring plugin for realistic guitar sustain. It was BSG's DockArticulate that introduced me to note length and ontime, (both of which can be seen in MS3's Piano Roll Editor).
