residual chords and notes in template file

• Jun 19, 2025 - 01:43

I previously saved a template of a song to preserve certain style and layout properties for future use. Now I load that template to input a new song, but I find there are "ghost" notes and chords from the old song within the template that are audible during playback, but are not visible, and cannot be made visible so I can delete them.
I did successfully delete the melody by using Ctrl-A (select all) and hitting delete, but the chords remain in the playback of the new song while there are no visible chords in the new score.
I tried using Shift-mouse-select on the entire score to delete the invisible chords, but they persistently remain. I have also selected the entire score and made sure everything was visible in the Properties tab, but still cannot see the ghost chords.
I'm stumped at this point.
I suppose I will need to start from scratch with new style and layout settings on a blank score (time consuming) unless someone has a suggestion to clear these errant residual chords.
Thanks
Jeff

Thanks for the reply. I Found a solution to my problem overnight. I found the original song file that the template was based on, deleted all the notation and chords (without saving the original file that way) and re-saved the template from it. The ghosts are gone.
I know this does not address any problem with a template saving such information in the first place (I assume it's not supposed to, but that may be due to my inexperience), but I am back on track writing new music with the saved style settings and no left-over music.
Thanks!
Jeff
