There's a propertly "stemless". And you can join and split measures
"notes with no rhythm" is a self-contradiction. Notes, by their nature take up a certain amount of time and thus, have rhythm. It is possible to write notes and then mark them not to play, which effectively gives them "no rhythm".
What most people I've seen discussing chant here do is to place a whole note in a measure and then add lyrics to that whole note. You can add multiple words to a single note by separating them with Ctrl+Space, so ...
