Simplicior - Simplified Notation
The objective of Simplicior is to make sheet music a bit simpler, less complex, and hence sight-reading, too; this plugin allows nearly any combination of the following options:
- use only one clef class (treble) throughout with adaptive octave offsets to minimise ledger lines and keep notes mostly within a staff while avoiding too many transitions;
- use only notes that represent the 12 tones in a chromatic scale of equal temperament, no double flats or double sharps, i.e. enforce enharmonic notes;
- use only the atonal signature, equivalent to C-major, to represent a score as if it was written in C-major and present all non-C-major notes as accidentals;
- primary notes (white keys on the piano, equivalent to C-major) that are altered in pitch through sharps or flats (and become black keys on the piano), change note-head colour and/or shape, but keep their position;
- alternatively, primary notes that are altered in pitch through sharps or flats and end up being tonally equivalent are represented by one unique note-head (and colour), but set at a common position;
- optionally, if sharp or flat symbols (as well as the natural symbols in a key) become redundant due to colour or shape encoding, do not show these symbols.
Current limitation:
- The "Treble Clef Only" options does carry out the analysis and computes an ideal sequence of clefs; however, these clefs cannot be set through the plugin API (yet).
- The "Atonal Key Signature" does in principle go through all measures and attempts to set the key signature to "atonal"; however, these key signature cannot be set through the plugin API (yet).
