By "distortion", do you mean some kind of static? If so you might be able to do it in Audacity.

Well, for an instrument like electric guitar, there is distortion -- available in the Text palette.

Problem by opening a file when MuseScore is already open.

I can open *.mscz file from Explorer with the option "Open with" only when MuseScore is closed.
If MuseScore is open and I try to open another file with the Explorer I have no chance to open a file.
What is gone wrong by the installation?
What should I add into the registry under the Key .mscz so that a file can be open too wenn Musescore is already running?

PS: I'm using MuseScore Evolution 3.7

For my students that are beginners i usually print the pitch name in the note. eventually we drop the "cheat" but i was wondering if there is a shortcut to do this instead of right click/staff part/properties/etc.?

Not really. The ctrl K just allows text I put for chords.
I’m wanting a shortcut that I could highlight all the notes (ctrlA) but then it inputs the name of the note in the note.

I see "Note Names" among the pre-installed plugins. Go to Plugins / Manage plugins and enable the "Note Names" plugin.

Dependence of language in use (Italian).
It displays the names of the notes (as staff text) according to MuseScore's language settings

Notation Imput

Updated from MS 4.5 to 4.51 hoping to control when MuseScore Inputs notes via Midi into a score. Before upgrading I could either from my computer or piano keyboard control when MS would input data into the score. With MS 4.5 and 4.51 I've lost control of that essential function. As it stands now, I cannot touch my midi keyboard without the data being entered on the score.

Real-time "metronome" input?

Hi. Can you input notes into Musescore in real-time in "metronome" mode. I think it's a feature in both Sibelius and Finale where you just start a metronome click and play the melody on a MIDI keyboard in real time to input notes into the score. is that possible to do in Musescore? Thanks. - Al

Search the forums for the term "realtime", as in "real-time MIDI input". You'll find LOTS of requests for it, over many years. Personally, I'm skeptical it will ever show up.

And it's not even that impressive of a program.

Who is responsible for allowing (or not) such things? On the other hand, the program and the forum are free. And I certainly can't thank the programmers, enough. But the money has to come from somewhere, and I don't see sheet music sales as that much of an income stream.

Would you pay a nominal sum to opt out of those ads? I know a couple of machinist's sites operate like that. And look at all the phone and tablet apps that charge an extra fee to go app-free.

It may be an unfortunate sign of the times. [sigh]

The forum is kept alive by volunteers who spend their time helping the community, with no reward other than the satisfaction of helping.

As for me, knowing that someone is profiting from it only discourages me from continuing to contribute. I would rather participate in another forum where that is not the case.

But plaudits don't feed the bulldog. It may be a case not of someone profiting, but someone getting a bill in the mail. After all, someone has to keep deleting the Cybermoney posts!

I'm all for MuseGroups making money, that makes sense. There is paid staff and they need to keep the lights on. But advertisement banners .org forum and hawking wares in MuseScore Studio, that just seems cheap and looks ugly. Sadly the adds lead to a MuseHub products of questionable quality. And clearly it's alienating some stalwart forum volunteer contributors. MuseHub should be able to figure out how to market it's products without butting into .org or MuseScore itself.

MuseGroup (www.mu.se](https://www.mu.se)currently has revenue streams including:
     • most everything on MuseScore.com
     • plus a serous bump from all the "official" Hal Leonard scores
     • plus MuseSounds (of which I am now increasingly leery and disappointed)
     • Ultimate Guitar
     • NotePad (which barely works AT ALL for note input on my M2 iPad)
     ...

Today's banner ad for Halbestunde's music scanning app sports an 80% price drop ($149 marked down to 29.99). Based on my experience with MuseHub/MuseSounds products I'm guessing this is still above what it's worth.

That said, for the same price, imagine the "value" of these MuseHub loops!. It's sad that MuseScore and MuseScore Studio are associated with sites that host so much garbage. use that first loop and you're courting being sued by the rights holder of the Mission Impossible theme.

Good stuff too I'm sure, but a curated selection would be in order. Otherwise MuseHub will become a festering pool like Audio.com.

I was already swithering (Scottish word for vacillating, hesitating, delaying making a decision) about dropping out of this forum, anyway, given that users of the .com website get directed to org, as do users of the program that have any problem. I might hang around to b(er)ate posters who annoy me, though.

I've just gone to the website of the publisher of this piece of ... ahem, software. At https://halbestunde.com/about/ they have a feedback form. I just completed it and informed them that users here are boycotting both MuseScore and their firm until advertising disappears from the musescore.org webpage. If you have the opportunity to inform them as well, do so. The more people who tell them that we don't appreciate their ad there, the more likely they are to pull it from Muse ... or, at least, from musescore.org.

In addition, communicate with others in music: contact the music department at your alma mater. Tell the music teacher at your local secondary school about it. Talk to the people who run your local music store.

Tell them that Halbestunde software is the worst and that they should not buy it!!!

I have been a supporter of this program at least as far back as .9 beta. I was very early in support of this software and was grateful for having access to it. I was a cheerleader for the the sociability of the forums and helped everyone and encouraged a kind, social response to questions.

I am appalled today to open the forums and see this gaudy, tasteless ad shoved into my face. The relentless grasp for more $$$ has destroyed much of value in this world; it would be very unfortunate if this software lost its great community. I hope the Musescore team wakes up.

Personally I will not participate any more, although my participation has greatly diminished since the release of 4.0 and it's poorly chosen path, replete with its errors and its wrest away from engraving.

I am saddened. No more recommendations, no more assistance.

The strange part of this: while the product of that ad is available only for iOS and Android, the ad doesn't show on mobiles (not in Chrome on Android at least), but only in a browser of a PC (Edge on Windows 11 in my case).
So the ad doesn't even reach the targeted potential customers.

On the plus side: it doesn't additionaly restrict the already restricted space on the mobile devices...

Really? Of all the things to be upset about, this is it?
I doubt that any user coming here for help, regardless of how they got here, really gives a rip about any ad they may see. Or that they will appreciate being made fun of. Interesting.
As to the quality of the product in the add, or that of what's on the HUB? That's going to be up to the user. There are plenty of people that think Sibelius and Dorico are awful. Many didn't like Finale. Many think MuseScore isn't any good. None of that is the point.
I admit I was slightly surprised when I first saw the ad. But I don't believe it's really worth such a fuss.

We're talking about inserting an advertisement (the first time I've seen this on a MuseScore forum in more of ten years...), and it's absolutely unbearable... It has absolutely no place here. And please don't reply to us in order to lengthen the discussion (discussing anything and everything), as you are unfortunately accustomed to doing, it will give us all a vacation...

Someone on this thread complained about the quality of the product in the ad. How come that was OK when it had nothing to do with the fact that there was an ad? I mentioned those products because there are people that don't like them, either. Sorry you missed the connection. And personal attacks have nothing to do with the ad.
How come it isn't OK to disagree with the premise of this thread? However I choose to do it.

Personally, I couldn't care less if there are ads here but, of course, I am not one of the volunteers who dedicate many hours to improve the product in exchange for nothing, so I can understand their anger. And if this is going to lead to losing valuable people like Jojo and others who solve many questions for those of us who are more ignorant or inexperienced then I will ask whoever it is to please remove the ads.

Missing Coda Marking

The attached jpg file is an image from a score indicating a DS al Coda. The issue I have is there is no CODA marked in the score nor is there any To CODA jump either. This measure marks the end of a section and the next section labed TRIO continues to the end of the score. Interestingly there is a Segno marking on the measure line between the two sections but this does not get referenced. The segno is prior to this measure. The end of the score is marked DC al Fine and the "Fine" appears before this measure also. Not sure how to procede with the jumps unless something can be assumed. I am thinking this is probably a notation to go back to the segno and replay the measures up to the end of this section. It is the Radetzky March OP 228 by Strauss. Anyone familiar with the score or general comments please.

Looks to me as if it means the "Trio" when it says "Coda". But yeah, I would call that notated incorrectly, by today's standards. However, I suspect that what we call "standard" today was only beginning to be standardized in the 1830s and '40s when he was writing this.

So, the piece begins on page 1 and goes to the first volta on page 3. It returns to the beginning of the system on page 1 and continues to the second volta on page 3. It then continues to the D.S. al Coda on page 5. From here it returns to the fifth measure on page 1 (labeled with the Segno). At the volta on page 3, it skips the first and plays the second, then continues.

This time when it reaches the D.S. al Coda on page 5, it continues to the "Trio", starting at the head of page 6. First volta on page 7 returns to the start-repeat mark: fifth measure on page 6. Then to the second volta on page 7. From there it continues to the first volta on page 9, which repeats to the start-repeat sign, immediately after the second volta on page 7. Then to the second volta on page 9 and D.C. al Fine.

From here it returns ALL the way to the beginning of the system on page 1. Then it plays to the second volta on page 3 and the Fine.

Where your copy says D.S. al Coda, I would put only D.S.. I think MuseScore should interpret that correctly ... at least, assuming that my interpretation of the sequence is correct. If you want it to look like the original (a poor choice, IMO, but *shrug*), then insert a D.S. at that point and change its text to say D.S. al Coda. That way it won't be looking for a To Coda marking.

Pretty much what I concluded but wanted some other eyes on the puzzle. This is a Strauss waltz and the pattern for these is rather similar from one to the other but the way this score was edited makes it some what different than others I have looked at where there are usually 4 or 5 sections with lots of repeats and jumps. At least this one didn't have what I call three ending repeates where you need to create CODA jumps to get the final pass to play back properly. I found several scores on Musescore.COM but I don't have full access to check what others have done. Could not see the full score. Thanks for your help.

Can I ask why you chose a Japanese interpretation of a score that was already dubiously notated in the first place? The DS command implies jump back to the Segno and then when you get to the Fermata, go to the TRIO.

How to add this slur to a composition

I am trying to enter a song composition into Musescore and have run into a snag.

Please refer to the attached snip of two measures I am working on. I can enter everything except the slur in the treble clef from measure 1 to measure 2. Musescore tries to rearrange the notes with things I did not enter.

And, is there a way to disable the automatic setting of rests? I would like to enter an entire measure before the software checks for the timing.

JoJo, we started this discussion before you went skiing. I can't get that plugin (if I even have the right one) to work. It didn't work for me in 4.5 or 4.5.1.

My first preference would be to have it universal, but I could deal with it with each new document. Or even apply it to a template.

EDIT: It's working now. Go figure. Where are those colors controlled? I'd like to change one or the other. They're both dark, and I'm having difficulty seeing the difference.
