Please!

Can we have a shortcut for set invisible!!!

The number of mouse-clicks to do this has gone up from 2 to 5 in 2.0!

In 1.2 it was right click element, choose set invisible

In 2.0 it is Select Element, Open Inspector, Uncheck Visible box, Click Apply, Close Inspector

It is becoming a serious annoyance every time I want to hide a score element.

With the number of people requesting this I'm surprised it hasn't been done before.

You can also keep the inspector opened and that will reduce it to 3 ;)

Nevertheless, I agree that the inspector is subobtimal and if we start with invisible, we will have to do it for color as well and maybe more. It would be better to find a better way globally...

No, I disagree Lasconic. Since "Set Invisible" was easily accessible before 2.0, it will be the _one_ simple feature that will be most missed because it is used so much.

I agree, of all things that might have been on the right click menu before but now require the inspector, Set Invisible stands out as the most obviously missing. We already have special case shortcuts for some other properties that are otherwise set via the Inspector (eg, stem direction), so I wouldn't worry too much about needing a global solution. Not that I'd be opposed to one, mind you. But keyboard shortcuts only make sense for properties that are toggles, and really, how many of those are there? "Small", I guess, would be another logical choice to make available for shortcut.

"You can also keep the inspector opened and that will reduce it to 3 ;)"

The inspector takes up far too much screen real estate.

I work on a 1280x1024 display and having the palette and the inspector open at the same time takes up half the screen width.

Personally I like to be able to see more than the bar I'm currently working on :) [Please note the use of hyperbole here!]

A default key combination suggestion anyone ? The shortcut will be "toggle invisibility" right ? if you have both visible and invisible elements selected, it will make the one invisible visible and the one visible invisible. Ok ?

"V" seems fine, although for some reason, it seems like this should require use of ctrl- or something. But assuming it's customizable, the default doesn't matter much to me.

I do wonder about the proposed behavior in the case where the selection includes a mixture. Not a big deal, but no, that's not how I'd expect it to work. I'd expect it to work like the "Bold" or "Italic" commands in a word processor, which are also toggles, but which usually have a special behavior in the case of mixed selections. If you have a mixed selection, the first press of the the Bold button (or keyboard shortcut) sets everything the same (I have no particular expectation as to which way the first would set everything), then subsequent toggles start toggling from there.

But I notice that as things stand in 1.2, if you have a mixed selection then right click, the menu says either "Set Visible" or "Set Invisible" depending on where you right clicked, but either way, it actually toggles everything just as proposed - the invisible become visible, the visible become invisible. So there is certainly that precedent for doing a simple toggle. It does suggest the menu items in 1.2 are misnamed, though - it really is "Toggle Visibility".

I see the latest nightlies solve this by putting both a "Set Visible" and a "Set Invisible" button in the Inspector when there are multiple notes selected. But really, a single checkbox that is "partially" checked (greyed out check mark) would be more standard behavior, at least for Windows programs. Then your first click in the box fully checks (or fully unchecks) it, and then it toggles from there.

Like I said, not a big deal. I do suspect there will be times when I'll have one or two invisible notes within a region already, then I would select the region and expect to be able to make the whole thing invisible, and the proposed keyboard toggle wouldn't do that - it would make the initially invisible notes invisible. But the current Inspector could still get the job done. Really, it's really for the single-note (or more to the point, the single-rest case) that I'm most wanting a keyboard shortcut anyhow.

But given that the current Inspector is very limited in the case of multi-selections, it is probably worth giving some thought to all this. Right now, as far as I can tell, there is no way to set alternate noteheads, MIDI attributes, or most other note properties when you have multiple notes selected. That is a *huge* regression that I hope is just temporary.

Right, I wouldn't suggest Ctrl-V. As for X, somehow, flipping a stem seems different to me than changing visibility. It's not the fact that it's a toggle that makes me thing it should require two keys, but more a matter of what the overall effect is in some way I can't quite define. But the existing shortcuts are very haphazard in this respect, so there's probably no point in trying to enforce some sort of consistency that does not exist.

Rev. 5648 add new commands: "toggle visibility", "set visible" and "set unvisible".
The last two are convenient if you have selected more than one element and some are already visible/unvisible.
The commands are only useful if you define some shortcuts for them. Default for "toggle" is "V".

What I have done is I went to Edit - Preferences - Shorcuts - and I found there (set invisible) and you are the one to decide what keyboard shortcut will you add :)
