Placing Different Notes in the same Staff

• May 8, 2013 - 18:43

I'm working on a SATB hymn arrangement and I ran into a problem. I have two staves, one for soprano and alto and the other for tenor and bass. I wanted to have a quarter note for the soprano and two eigth notes for the alto, but it doesn't want to do that. Is there any way to make it that I can do this or do I have to create all the parts on a separate staff?

Thanks for your help,
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

I hope I can help ... I had to do something similar for a drum part

With Musescore open, you get the tool bar with the different types of note displayed. At the far right end are the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 in different coloured blocks. You dont relaise it - but '1' is already selected - and that is why the notes that you appply on the stave are initially coloured blue.

Having entered the Soprano notes for the bar / phrase / whole piece if necessary, click on the '2' block and go enter the notes for the Alto. Just as before, you can enter rests & change note lengths. You can therefore have a completely different phrasing for each part.

There is more in the 'in line help' under 'Notation > voices'

Chris
