We had a handful of users (3 by my count) report an issue on the forum, Musescore won't open after Mac Monterey install?. The thread is a bit light on details

  • Install or upgrade? Assuming upgrade.
  • Exact symptom - one user provides info of the message on startup: startup hang on 'Initializing sequencer and audio driver...' (not sure if this is the same for all users)

One user downgraded. Hopefully someone who runs into this can expand.

Is there any update on this? Musescore (both 3.6 and 4.0 dev version) still crash on startup on macOS Monterey 12.1.

I'm one of the users on Mac Monterey 12.1/Intel i5 who is having a similar issue. I was running a way older version of MuseCore (downloaded in 2012), but stopped arranging in 2014 until yesterday. My old charts are long lost. So I clicked on icon and got the message to contact developers/no longer supported. The expected from a decade old program. I figured I needed to update/install news. Didn't see that the download was for catalina. Went through installation. Moved old program to trash and emptied. Clicked new icon and waited... See icon in dock. Wait... Right click and it says app is not responding. Wait some more (5-10 minutes) and eventually force quit. I download a different open source application to see if if it's another issue, but the same thing is happening with it. I'm going to un and re- but do you think i'm just one of those unlucky "few" who muse is just no longer going to work for?

There will probably not be any update/progress without more info from users experiencing the issue, or instructions on how to reproduce the issue.

Can you confirm if it crashes for you on startup (which would be a different issue), or hangs on 'Initializing sequencer and audio driver...' as per the issue title? Have you tried https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/revert-factory-settings , disabling start center or anything else?
