opening mscz files

Just installed version 3.6 in Ubuntu latest version.
I have a lot of music files, either as .mscz or .xml or .midi which opened nicely in version 2.
Now with any of these files it says: cannot read file or access is denied.
Also a file in the library (Fauré - Requiem) played well in the browser but would not download!
