Keyboard note input not steady

Hello,

The function Note input via keyboard is not steady.
I always have trouble in activating this and when it works it can suddenly stop
When I look at the dpreferences, the settings are gone, see screenprint
Any suggestions what I can do to solve this problem?

Gear: iMac OS12.0.1 Nord Stage 3 Midi MT4 interface.

When I connect a simple midi keyboard via USB, it does not function also
