Multiple problems with Courtesy Accidentals

• Apr 10, 2011 - 02:18

Not sure how to write up these properly (some involving problems of their own).

PROBLEM 1

1. Open attached score.
2. Add sharp to first crotchet.
3. Add sharp to second crotchet.
4. Add natural to first crotchet.
5. Click on the sharp of the second crotchet.
6. Delete.
(Result: Sharp is still there)
7. Delete.
(Result: Sharp is gone)

Using MuseScore 1.0 - Mac 10.4.11.

In MuseScore 2.0 nightly build (4156), I cannot go beyond 4, because it will not allow me to apply a natural (is this behaviour correct?).

----------
PROBLEM 2

1. Open attached score.
2. Add sharp to first crotchet.
3. Add sharp to second crotchet.
4. Add sharp to first crotchet.
5. Click on sharp of second crotchet.
6. Delete.
7. Undo.

Result: Undo doesn't work properly.

Using MuseScore 1.0 - Mac 10.4.11.

In MuseScore 2.0 nightly build (4156), this doesn't appear to be a problem as such (on the 10.6.7 MacPro - a different keyboard to the 10.4.11 MacBook - with regards to delete/backspace e.t.c, which I can't test because of rectangle features). I would recommend making sure though.

----------
PROBLEM 3

1. Open attached score.
2. Add sharp to first crotchet.
3. Add Sharp to second crotchet.
4. Click on sharp of second crotchet.
5. Delete.

Result: Sharp is still there (unable to select either) and collides with first crotchet.

Using MuseScore 2.0 nightly build (4156) - Mac 10.6.7.

----------
PROBLEM 4

1. Open attached score.
2. Add sharp to first crotchet.
3. Add sharp to second crotchet.
4. Undo.

Result: The third (and first to function) attempt to undo produces a step not originally taken (one C sharp crotchet).

Using MuseScore 2.0 nightly build (4156) - Mac 10.6.7.

Hi,

In your problems, you repeatedly say "Add sharp...". There are two ways to add an accidental to a note:

1) By raising (or lowering) the note pitch, with the [UP] / [DOWN] arrows while the note is selected; this is a, say, "normal" or "floating"accidental.

2) By using the [SHARP], [NATURAL], [FLAT] icons in the toolbar or using the shortcut key (I think only sharp has a shortcut by default, but shortcuts for natural and flat can be created in Preferences); this is a "fixed" accidental.

The first type of accidentals is 'floating' in this sense: the note pitch is the required one (say, C#) but the sharp itself may appear or disappear if the context change (for instance, if a previous key signature is changed or if a previous C is changed from natural to sharp or viceversa)

The second type is fixed: the note will always keep its accidental, no matter what happens to the context. This can be used for courtesy accidentals or for non-tonal music or for a number of other applications. The note will loose its accidental only if its pitch is changed (thus becoming a different note).

To which kind of accidentals do you refer in your post?

Thanks,

M.

I'd be grateful if someone could create issues for problems 1 and 4. I'm not sure what to detail as the cause, with regards to a title, etc.

The result of 4 is different - Undo doesn't function.

2 and 3 seem to be fixed.

Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (4257) - Windows XP SP3.

Okay, thanks :). I meant you could test on the latest nightly build, not the one I listed at the time. Just because you said you tried #4 on 1.0, in which I don't think was reproducible.

I get rectangles on the nightly builds (Tiger seemingly), but I am currently upgrading my MacBook OS, so it'll hopefully be fixed shortly :).
