Pop-up windows (1.x and trunk)

Many of MS's dialogs are of a pop-up nature where ESC will not cancel them. The problem occurs when using the keyboard for note entry. I am getting better at this but it is frustrating when you hit the wrong key (like Y, T, Z, K, L). A dialog will pop up which you cannot dismiss with the ESC key and you must fumble about finding the mouse (or the trackpad) just to move the mouse pointer and close the window. (I just realized you can use Alt-F4 to close these windows, but ESC is, to me, the first response to closing an unwanted window. Alt-F4 always feels "dangerous" to use as I expect the app to close as well.)

Can some of these dialogs be changed so they are dismissable with the ESC key? The list includes:

Y - Clefs
T - Time sigs
Z - Symbols (I hit this a lot)
K - Key sigs
L - Dynamics
