Using Musescore for backing tracks
Just wondering if anyone has used Musescore to create backing tracks / kareoke tracks and if so, what sucesss you've had with sound quality? Also wondering if you have any tips? Does anyone know if there is already a forum for this topic.

I was producing backing tracks professionally in the early 2000's, so am probably the best person to comment on this.
It is perfectly possible to use MuseScore to make backing tracks, and even to render them, although it depends on the quality you require, as currently the stable version will not play single not crescendo/diminuendo.
It can certainly be used to transcribe the tracks, although you may find that some songs are better played directly into a MIDI sequencer - I was using Finale for this purpose, particularly when producing orchestral or big band backing tracks. Once I had completed the arrangement, the score would be saved as a MIDI file and transferred to Cakewalk's Sonar DAW software, where specifics like guitar strums, brass falls, single note crescendos, and the other specifics best handled in a sequencer were added. A CAL script was then used to "humanise" playback and the score then rendered to audio. It was then mixed, any effects like compression, reverb, chorusing etc added and finally mastered using the Sonitus multiband compressor plugin. It was then saved as a WAV file.
If all you require are karaoke tracks for home use, then probably MuseScore's audio export is probably good enough, although mixing is not as easy due to the mixer being in the vertical axis, and thus requiring much scrolling when mixing a many instrument score.
