MuseScore does not recognize MIDI input

• Aug 14, 2011 - 00:55

I can enter notes manually or with the mouse, but Musescore does not recognize my keyboard.
Dell Vostro 1310 laptop
windows xp
Casio CDP-100 piano
X-MIDI 1x1 Tab by E-MU (MIDI to USB)
Musescore v. 1.1
In and out connected properly--the light on the USB flashes with keypresses)
I downloaded the driver for the interface from EMU

connected cable.
turned on MIDI keyboard
opened Musescore
note entry works manually or with mouse.
MIDI button appears to be pressed (clicking it does not change it)
Under Edit /preferences/ I and O, the selection box "Choose PortMIDI input interface" is blue and the clicking on the arrow does nothing
I've rebooted zillions of times, but the program does not appear to be able to recognize my keyboard.

Please help

Hi Lasconic,

I downloaded pmdefaults from the link you provided.

It finds my keyboard and the data it gives under 'Default Input' is:
LPK25 [MM System]

Still nothing is showing in MuseScore.

Let me know if there is a way to get it to find it in MuseScore.

Thanks,

stu

Found the problem. I had connected IN to IN and OUT to OUT. For MIDI this is the wrong way since it is a daisy-chainable connection. There is information out there (at Amazon in the reviews) on the HDE interface that claims it will not work with 64 bit Windows 7; this is apparently incorrect, too, as I'm using this OS.
============================================================================

Casio CPS-7 piano; Windows 7; HDE cable/interface.

PortMIDI Setup says
Default Input = USB Midi (MMSystem). (no other choices, and this disappears when USB cable unplugged).
Default Output = Microsoft MIDI Mapper (MMSystem) (2 other choices but not using output here)

Pressing a piano key does NOT light the black dot on PortMIDI Setup.
Pressing TEST at the output sounds a note on the computer.

Close/Release Ports, then exit PortMIDI Setup

No response in MS to pressing piano key. Restarted MS; no change. Restarted computer: no change.

What else to try?

Thanks, & thanks for ALL your effort in bringing MS to life!!

X-MIDI 1x1 Tab by E-MU (MIDI to USB) did not work.
I tried both MidiOx and PMDefaults and they see the port perfectly.
We also have Piano Wizard for the kids and it works fine.
When i pulled the nightly build, it worked the first time then it did not see it again.

Very strange.

Same problem here too - the PortMidi pull-down select box is blank. I haven't tried PMDefaults with my MIDI controller plugged in yet, but PMDefaults is detecting LoopBe1, whereas MuseScore is not even detecting this. I will make sure PMDefaults can see my MIDI controller just for completeness though. (other programs do see the MIDI controller)

Environment: Windows 7, Casio PX-330 digital piano using USB for MIDI, standard Windows USB MIDI driver. (just plugged in the Casio and it worked)

EDIT: I have now tried PMDefaults with the digital piano plugged in (via USB), and as expected, it does see the piano. If I select it for the output port, the test function plays a note successfully, too. MuseScore still does not see any MIDI input whatsoever.

Greg.
