MuseScore lacks a MIDI panic button similar to what Finale and Sibelius have. Such a button stops all MIDI and SoundFont notes by sending a "note off" message to all keys in all channels.
Notes are occasionally sustained even when playback is stopped, and a panic button would mitigate this.

IMHO there is no real need for such a button, but that " note off" message should rather be sent automatically on every 'stop playback', shouldn't it?
Can this be reproduced on the trunk?
I can only remember encountering it in 1.2.
Yes, it has happened to me a couple of times lately, although I cannot give you steps to reproduce.
The 2.0 Roadmap has a note in the Playback section:
o No panic button, bug is fixed
I suspect it pertains to this issue, but of course I can't be totally certain.
