no way to insert notes

• Mar 22, 2012 - 08:22

One of the most frustrating things about this program is that there is no way to insert notes where, when and how you want them. I find I am having to delete entire measures and start over. I am finding no help in the handbook on this.

As explained in the other thread to which you posted, it is a simple matter of copying and pasting the notes you want moved, then adding the note you want inserted. Ni need to delete and etype anything.

That's when you need to use cut and paste. Leave note entry mode, click the first note you want moved, shift-click the last note you want moved, hit ctrl-C (or ctrl-X), change the first note to whatever you want, then click the note after it and hit ctrl-V. This gives you precise control over how many notes you want moved. An automatic scheme that did something like move all notes until the end of the measure, or all notes until the first full measure rest, would be a nice enhancement someday and would save a couple of clicks in the cases where that happened to be exactly the right number of notes to move.

@eameece, though I thoroughly recommend getting used to the way MuseScore works, if you really want it to work differently you might want to try using one of the alternatives. I suspect you would end up being even more frustrated by the peculiarities and limitations of something like Finale Notepad, but it's always possible that it might match the way you think. I find there are programs (like Microsoft Excel) which suit me from the start, and others (like Microsoft Word) which are endlessly frustrating. No doubt there are people who find Excel frustrating but love Word.
