Printing 1-page score Impossible with MacBook Pro & HP C7280

• Aug 27, 2012 - 15:49

Hello: After creating & printing MANY one-page scores with my current system (MacBook Pro 10.7.4) and printer (HP C7280), unless I can resolve a NEW problem, I will have to abandon MuseScore altogether. -- Creating the one-page score (I'm a piano teacher and these are student exercises, etc) is no problem and I really like the software. One day, I could print and the next I cannot. After about an inch of good printing, the printer ejects the page, sounds its "document completed alarm", and reloads for a new print job. Then it pauses itself and I have to manually resume printing which repeats the same partial cycle. If I let this occur through about 5 cycles, I might get a full page of printing but not always. Other clues may be: The Print Queue says the score to be printed is "Untitled" and says Communication between the computer and the printer has been interrupted. I have tried turning the printer OFF and disconnecting EVERYTHING and setting it all up again. This has no effect on the problem. Restarting seemed to lead to a little more printing before the usual premature ejection and reloading. -- Printing NON-MuseScore documents is affected but, after several attempts, the printer seems to "right itself" and, eventually readjusts the paging so that I get the correct output. Any ideas, anyone? Thank you! Jim

Sure doesn't sound like anything that could be MuseScore's doing - sounds like something wrong in your OS/hardware setup. Was there an OS update or anything like that recently? Any new hardware installed?

If you can get other programs to print but not MuseScore, the workaround would be to save as PDF from MuseScore then print that using some other program (eg, Adobe Reader or whatever Mac equivalent might be).

Jim,

if you are using a Mac, you should be taking advantage of its built in PDF engine.
From MuseScore, save your files as PDF. This is anyway the best way for archiving your music.
Then just double-click the PDF files. They will open in „Preview“ from where you can easily print them (and even adjust the size to 100% or slightly bigger or smaller).

ps: on the Mac you have two ways to produce PDFs from MuseScore:
1.) press cmd-P (for print) and in the print dialogue window choose „Save as PDF“ or „Open in Preview“.
the other possibility is:
2.) in MuseScore go to the file menu and choose „Save as“. In this dialogue window you have to choose „PDF“ obviously and then save the file.
Using PDFs on the Mac is a lot of joy.

I don't think putting an intermediate step into what should be a normal process is the answer. The answer is to find out what is wrong and to correct it. If he could print in Musescore previously and now it fails indicates somethng has changed for the worse.

And unless he's installed a newer version of MuseScore or changed anything to do with MuseScore then whatever is wrong is not due to MuseScore.

Is this a WiFi problem?

PDF's are the answer to this problem. Thank you for the idea. I did make sure to DELETE all of the HP downloads residing in my Applications Utilities folder. Saving/Printing scores as .pdf files will be standard practice, from now on.

Thank you all for your help. The PDF solution was the answer. I think it also helped to DELETE ALL of the HP driver downloads residing in my Applications Utilities folder. Saving scores to PDF and printing them that way will be standard practice from now on. Thank you again! JHJ
