Help in spacing notes in multi-voice chord?

• Dec 24, 2012 - 13:35

Hi there!

I am struggling to correctly space a chord that has notes shares by two voices. It's a Brahms piece for piano.

Please see the attachment for the desired result, as well as the notes as I have attempted it so far. Apart from manually double-clicking on each note and spacing them using arrows on the keyboard, is there an easier way to get the notes spaced as they should be?

Thanks and happy Christmas!

Voice 1:
Enter the quavers, beam them all, un-beam the first quaver.

Voice 2:
(N, [Ctrl]-i-2 is my preferred way of entering the second voice).
4, 0 (quaver rest).
5, e, [Shift]-g for the first crotchet chord.
c, [Shift]-e for the second crotchet chord.
4, c, e for the final chord (quavers).

Now right-click (in turn) on the two notes that you want to point left; choose Note Properties, note head position ans set it to "left of stem".

Does this mean you're starting the last section (8C) in your quest to transcribe all the grading pieces?

[Shift]-x - I'd forgotten about that; thanks.

Thanks. That's how I did it, but the spacing was still wrong. I managed to get it looking good now.

Underquark: In reply to your question, yes, I am hard at work on the Gr.8 pieces, but still struggling to get enough time set apart for doing them. I still need to find some missing pieces for the other grades, and still need to format and finger everything for legibility and playability. My goal just seems further and further away...
