Explode

• Nov 26, 2013 - 20:11

I've just gone to Win8 and downloaded Muscore1.3. Have tried the Explode plugin (which I used on previous computer). It doesn't seem to work unless I've had a Simpsons moment.

I've copied the 4 trumpets onto each stave, They are all in different voices btw. When I highlight the entire lot and click on the "Explode" plugin, nothing happens. However, if I only highlight what would be trumpet 1 staff and click "Explode" it tells me that I haven't highlighted enough staves. So clearly part of the plugin is working. Any thoughts?

Thanks Mark, but that is exactly what i did. I wrote 4trumpets on one stave and then wanted to explode them to the other staves. I'm sure i did that before because i followed your guidance on using explode written somewhere in this website.

I'm confused. In your original post above, you say, "they are all in different voices bte". Are you now saying that is not the case and that they actually all in the same voice? If so, then posting the score and steps to reproduce would be necessary to see what is going on.

Hi Mark
sorry for the confusion. I meant the trumpets were all in seperate voices ie tpt 1 voice 1 (layer 1 blue) tpt2 voice 2 (layer 2 green) etc. Hopefully I've uploaded the quick sketch I was using as a trial.

So the trumpet 1 line was filled out with the harmony.
Then I copied that line across the other remaining Trumpet parts.
Then I highlighted the top first note and the lowest last note and clicked on Explode. Nothing happened.

You have 4 staves (you call them voice) with 4 voices (you call them layer) each. The explode plugin expects one voice only, with a chord (consisting of several notes) rather than 4 independant notes in 4 voices.
So try VoiceCaster instead, it would split one staff of 4 voices into 4 staves of 1 voice
Run "respell accidentals" after that.

Hi all and thank to everyone who replied. I have just realised my stupid error - helped by all your comments.
For anyone reading this who is wondering about the EXPLODE plugin it really is VERY VERY USEFUL as long as you don't make my silly error.
Write all your (for eg) trumpets on one stave (which is what I did) BUT keep them all as ONE VOICE (which is what I didn't!!). Then they will explode - which saves hours of work.
Homer Simpson has nothing on me! Doh

Except that Explode needs you to copy manually stuff from the condensed stave to all other staves before running the plugin. And MuseScore 1.3 doesn't copy and paste crescendo marks and other dynamics.

Hmm, difficult to know what to say. I don't run Windows 7. I could try in a Windows XP to see if there is something different to OS X. I thought that being JavaScript it should work on everything.

I'll let you know if I find anything.
