Extra ties

• Mar 28, 2018 - 13:03

Fairly often, when I select chords to be tied to a consecutive chord , the software adds ties (or slurs - not sure) to others further in the score. Any suggestions? Thanks for all your help ! Sandy

If the next chord does not have the same notes as the one where the ties start, then do the ties one note at a time. If you select the entire chord, it will look for a note to tie to even if it's later in the score.

Be sure to only select the first chord, not the one you are tying to. MuseScore interprets the selection as the place(s) you want to start the tie. So if you select both the starting and ending chord, MuseScore connects them but then also tried to start another on the second chord, which may indeed end up extending to other measures.

Yes, thanks. I am selecting (highlighting) just the first chord but it reaches to other same pitches as well. I just have to stick to clicking on the stem but sometimes it's difficult when there are eighth notes (small space for the cursor, and it tends to select the flag instead of the stem.) Thanks for responding.

You should not need to just select the stem unless you are actually trying to do something with the stem alone (like lengthen it). So something isn't making sense here. We could provide better assistance if you attached your score and told us step by step what you are doing.

Clicking the stem to create ties is like a shortcut for selecting the entire chord. You will get the same results. Your choices are to either select only the notes you want tied, or delete the extra ties. BTW, I have seen several score where the ties are attached to a later note and it makes sense musically.
