Mixer Issues (3.0)

• Dec 28, 2018 - 05:28

I have many instruments in this score and a lot of them use instruments that are not in the standard MuseScore soundfont or I've changed them to something of my personal taste. When I go to mixer, it only extends to a point and the other half of my instruments are not able to be edited in the mixer. Also, when I go to another part, the mixer does not change and the instruments are the same, still leaving the second half of instruments unreachable. Is there a way to shrink the mixer or to add a scroll bar?

There should already be a scroll bar at the bottom of the mixer window. Looks like your mixer is too big for your screen - are you using an unusual display setup?

I have exactly the same problem. Mixer is too big and it is impossible to make it smaller with mouse (for some reason the size of the window cannot be changed). In short, mixer is unusable. Also, the toolbars are too big. I have tried to reduce the size of icons by starting Musescore 3 with command line attributes "musescore.exe -x 0.5". That changes the size of icons but does not reduce the huge toolbars. Neither does it change the size of mixer. My screen's size is 1920x1080. It seems I have to install musescore 2 again, since I cannot use the mixer in musescore 3.

Many thanks! Using -D attribute in command line fixes the problem with big toolbars. However, it does not fix the problem with the mixer. The mixer is still huge (see the attached picture) and its size cannot be changed with mouse.

I am also wondering why a way too small dpi value produces good looking results. I calculated dpi of my monitor as follows. I have HP spectre x360 notebook with 13.3'' 1920x1080 monitor. The height of the monitor is approximately 16.5cm and thus about 6.496063 inches. Hence, DPI should be about 1080/6.496063=166.25. Similarly, the width of the monitor is approximately 29.3cm, that is, 11.53543 inches. Therefore, DPI should be around 166 because 1920/11.53543=166.44. However, if I start Musescore 3.0 with "musescore.exe -D 166", this does not fix the problem but makes it worse. Now the icons and toolbars are HUGE. However, starting with e.g. "musescore.exe -D 70" provides quite nice results. The size of the toolbars is ok and approximately similar to the size they have in musescore 2.3.2 without using any commandline attributes. Thus, I wonder why a way too small dpi value produces good looking results and why in musescore 2.3.2 there was no need for any command line attributes. Hence, there seems to be two bugs. One with the mixer and one with the default size of the toolbars. Ideally, no command line attributes would be needed.

But if I use scaling 125% I can see the whole mixer (when I start without command line attributes). Here is yet another picture with scaling 125% (Clipboard04.jpg). As you can see, the size of the mixer is ok although the text in the mixer window is quite small. I would not like to use scaling 125% because that is not optimal setting for my screen (everything is too small).

Here (Clipboard02.jpg) is also a screenshot of Musescore 3.0 started without any command line attributes. Here scaling is 150%. As you can see, the toolbars take a lot of space of small 13.3'' screen. In the picture above (Clipboard01.jpg) the Musescore 3.0 is started with "musescore.exe -D 70" as I explained above.

Developers, FYI: Musescore 3.0.1.5087 does not fix the Mixer issue described above. In brief, mixer is too big, with small 13.3'' screen, if screen scaling is set to 150% (see the pictures above). Changing screen scaling to 125% or 100% is not an option. Text and icons etc. get too small.
