1) new score
2) add four quarter notes to measure 1
3) add lyrics: "A _ B C" (that is, A extended voer first two notes, B on beat 3, C on beat 4)
4) select the measure
5) insert measure

Result: melisma line extends through B and C

Workaround: delete "A" and add it back
