When inserting a trill to a note, either by dragging from the pallette or selecting the note and double clicking, the trill extends to the full measure.
Statistically trills affect a single note more often than not, so the process of manually shortening the trill is not efficient in the long run.
I suggest that the trill encompass only the selected notes, either if a range is selected (in this case the current behavior is correct) or if one or more noteheads are selected.

Comments

Many items in the lines palette do the same thing. Examples include Ottavas and pedal lines. Things that are not included are slurs and hairpins.

While the current behavior makes sense for some lines, it generally doesn't for trills, so it could be worth special-casing them here.

Ottavas are used on single notes often in harp music. Pedal lines are occasionally used on less than a measure, so I can understand them defaulting to a measure.
