Fret diagrams without 'x' and 'o'

• Aug 10, 2014 - 10:27

I would like to propose a small improvement to the fret diagram feature. I would love to be able to switch not only between 'x' and 'o', but also choose not to show anything above a given string. In order to give pupils a visual picture of where a certain note is located on the guitar, fret diagrams are very useful. In this situation however, five unnecessary signs above the diagram are, yes, unnecessary ;-)

I can of course use some sort of workaround by exporting the diagrams as pictures, but of course I would appreciate a better solution very much.

If you do agree with me, I would suggest to implement this similarly to the switch between 'x' and 'o'. A third click would hide the sign while another click into the area would get back the 'x' or 'o'.

Thank you very much for your reply!

It works well. Thanks jschwalm for this idea.

- Now the next step would be to improve the way to indicate the barrés.

I read a discussion about it (with a contributor, jpirie, particular), unfortunately, I no find it more.
Thus I continue the discussion here, sorry.

So for the barrés, for now, in my opinion it gives a sense of unfinished. As if something was missing.

It should be possible to obtain this result, or something like that, one day or the other. No hurry at all for me. I use a few diagrams, rather rarely. But this could be a issue to consider after 2.0 maybe?

I think this has been fixed since you posted that issue. I can rotate between three options - "O", "X" and " " as you describe in the fret diagrams by clicking above the string on the fret diagram.

I'm happy to look at this. A while back there was a discussion on this topic somewhere indeed, I have no preference for the horizontal line and there weren't enough people from the contrasting view around at that time, so it's stayed without the line.

It's obviously desired here, so I'm happy to add that option in. I'll post here when it's done :-)
