Right click on measure, measure properties (in attachment 11/8); I would say they are some Tremoli.

Thank you. I tried to do the same but end up bleeding into the next bar. Then I tried pasting your example, but the same happens. How did you enter these notes? (I typed dotted eighths which must be wrong.) Thanks.

To simplify the process use the feature Tools/Measures->Join;
Enter your notes, then you can use Tools/Measures->Split...

Ok. Where is tools ? I checked old and new musescores under edit and tools - didn't see 'join' or 'measures.

Then look again. In MuseScore 3: Tools > Measure/Bar > Split measure bar at selected note, Join selected measures/bars, in MuseScore 2 under Edit > Measure/Bar
