Syncin with a sequencer.

• Aug 21, 2014 - 01:09

HI! i have been using Musescore from a while. Im linking it a lot, except the fact it cant do a midi recording. I really like how the v2 manage MusicXML import, it looks clean and nice.

My question is the following: If you are working with a sequencer that can export or save musicXML, you need to reload the file in musescore manually, or is posible to sync between them (by example, that if you modify velocityes in the sequencer, that Musescore detect that the file has been modifyed, and reload it automatically)

Additionally, when you import MusicXML, is the midi data that Musescore cant handle or edit, like modulations ccs, preserved?

Thanks!

Hi Marcielo, welcome aboard.

The information you require can be found in the MusicXML 3 DTD which you can download here: http://www.musicxml.com/for-developers/

As far as I know, MusicXML doesn't store controller information other than velocity and program change.

For doing what you are trying to do, the SMF import/export feature of MuseScore would be much better, although currently I'm not sure whether you would lose controller information on export from MuseScore.

As for the sync - no - MuseScore would not be able to detect the change without reloading, in fact, I don't see how this could be done.

Thanks your answer. I will take a look to that adress, and make some tests, about what midi data is preserved in importation-exportation.

About the sync, a good example of it is the sforzando sfz player. It allow to edit the sfz files it have loaded, and when you hit save in any text editor, the player automatically detects it and reload the samples.
