Error with arpeggios spacing

• May 15, 2020 - 23:14

I have a problem with the spacing of arpeggios in Musescore 3.4.2. In the attached photo "wrong_placed.png" you can see what happens when I write the arpeggios in the right hand (everything is without moving anything of its default position). I see that this error doesn't happen always, as the photo "well_placed.png".

This is somewhat intentional, although I agree it doesn't look so good in this specific case. The idea is to save space in the score by allow symbols to overlap where possible without collision. The same is true is, for instance, instead of an arpeggio you had an accidental on the D. Or, in your original example, if you moved it up a couple more steps, I think you'd agree it looks good to allow the arepggio to overlap the rest.

However, the code that calculates this is severely underestimating the size of the arpeggio, so it actually does allow collisions in some cases. See for instance https://musescore.org/en/node/275962#comment-903135. Definitely we need to take another look at how we calculate arpeggio layout.
