1) Load a Score
2) Verify that playback is working
3) Initiate a change of Windows 10 user Sign In. (You don't actually need to actually change the Windows user, just 1. click on current user Icon in Start Menu, 2. Choose the name of a different Windows 10 user, 3. Click on your own user icon when the sign-in screen for that user appears, and then 4. Sign back into your own session.)
4) Verify that playback no-longer works
5) Quit MuseScore
6) Restart MuseScore with same score
7) Verify that playback is again working

I have been putting up with this bug for a while. (Workaround is quit and restart.) It happens whenever my wife and I switch between our sign-ins. It happens with a completely new score with only rests, a score with one only two a couple of notes, and the scores I am actually working with. I verified it exists in MuseScoreNightly-2020-06-10-1448-3.x-a3e23d6-x86_64.7z.

Yes! Clicking the Midi button button once does nothing but then clicking on it again (so it returns to the selected state) makes playback start working again. That certainly is a much easier work-around.

I would have responded much more quickly but I was waiting for an e-mail notification of a response. (I always have for past issues I have reported.) None came (Yes I just checked my spam folder - nothing there). I recently got a notification that someone subscribed to my MuseScore updates so I navigated to the IssueTracker and discovered that you had responded back on June 14. I will poll for responses at a much higher rate in the future.
