Trouble Installing New Version on Linux Virtual Machine (Crostini / Debian) - Lenovo Chromebook

• Mar 14, 2021 - 22:56

I had a very successful install nearly a year ago, of Musescore 3.4.2 an my Chromebook using Flatpak. However I've been having trouble runnnig the latest version that was installed using Snap:

dsaphra@penguin:~$ /snap/bin/musescore.mscore
No protocol specified
qt.qpa.screen: QXcbConnection: Could not connect to display :0
Could not connect to any X display.

Anyone know what we could try next?

Neither flatpak nor snap are supported by us. I'm not saying they have no chance of working, but we have no control over how they are built and no insight into the things they might be doing wrong. But it does indeed seem to be they often don't work. The AppImage we provide should work fine. Works fine on my Chromebook, which has the default debian "buster" Linux installation on it.

Still spinning our wheels:

dsaphra@penguin:~$ sudo flatpak install flathub org.musescore.MuseScore
Looking for matches…
Skipping: org.musescore.MuseScore/aarch64/stable is already installed
dsaphra@penguin:~$ sudo flatpak run org.musescore.MuseScore
No protocol specified
qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display :99.0
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vnc, wayland-egl, wayland, wayland-xcomposite-egl, xcb.

We see that others have had a problem with Qt as well.
