Lyric verse numbers not aligned

In the attached score the verse numbers are not aligning as they are supposed to. Why is this happening?

I entered the syllables by pasting, but they are all attached to the same staff.

The punctuation at the beginning of the lyrics is confusing the algorithm that attempts to sort out what should be aligned and what should not. Generally, leading punctuation is ignored for that purpose (notice the first letter of each verse is aligned), but it probably shouldn't be ignored if there is a verse number also. Anyhow, you'll have to adjust the position of those syllables manually.
